Taking the occasion of the Japan-Mekong Exchange Year of 2009, JOCA and the Lao People’s Revolutionary Youth Union (LPRYU) will jointly hold a project contest. We aim to realize a support project to contribute to the development of the country and its human resources based on the Lao people’s real problem consciousness, using our experience in various foreign countries.
To realize the above-mentioned support project, we will invite Lao people to submit project ideas. After we strictly and fairly examine the submitted ideas, we will commend excellent ideas (and give prize money for the ideas). With regard to the prizewinning project ideas, we will conduct a needs survey for each of them, expecting that the Lao people’s real needs can be reflected in our support project.

About JOCA:
Since the Japan Overseas Cooperative Volunteers (JOCV) was founded in 1965 under the motto of “together with local people,” it has made sincere efforts to carry out activities for the development of the countries to which JOCV dispatched its members. More than 32,000 members have so far been dispatched to 87 countries.
The Japan Overseas Cooperative Association (JOCA) was founded in 1983 as a group of persons experienced as JOCV members. In this 25th anniversary of the foundation, we are planning to start new activities in Laos, using our experience accumulated in various foreign countries. The activities aim to contribute to the development of communities in Laos through the training of key persons who will serve as a driving force to change the communities.
